SAUCE
In a large saucepan mix brown sugar and water together and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to simmer, add vanilla and butter, cover while preparing batter.
BATTER
In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Cut in butter until crumbly looking. Add milk and vanilla all at once and stir just until moistened.
Drop large spoonfuls of batter into the boiling syrup. Cover and simmer, without removing cover,
for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in middle of dumpling comes out clean. Serve hot.
